It is amazing how our world continues to change…. and changes occur so rapidly, it amazes us all. All the changes are creating new economies.
New realities require workers with specialized skills and knowledge. It is said that the our students have to be ready to perform jobs that do not exist now. According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, 80% of good-paying jobs, that means enough pay to sustain a family, require a post-secondary education and 56% require a bachelor’s degree. Wow… the expectations for the workforce of tomorrow continues to increase. However, high school graduates are not ready to supply the need of the labor force. As an example, a 2021 study performed by Sattem and collaborators found that 70% of high school students lack the academic readiness for college or career. However, other studies have found good practices that increase the readiness of students. Workplace experiential learning activities strengthens students’ education and prepares them to make informed decisions about the future.
